The American Ambassador to South Africa, Mr. Reuben Brigety, informed reporters in Pretoria yesterday that South Africa provided military weapons to Russia to attack Ukraine, despite its claim of neutrality. 

Brigety presented strong evidence that the Russian warship Lady R, which was in Cape Town in December, was loaded with weapons. [post_ads]

He stated that the US would not accept giving weapons to Russia, as South Africa did. 

Mr Vedant Patel, the Deputy Spokesperson in the Department of International Relations in the United States, expressed concern about the arrival of Transmorflot LLC, a company's ship under US and foreign countries' sanctions, in South Africa. 

Although South Africa condemns the invasion of Ukraine, the opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, has criticized the ANC government for cooperating with a country that wants war.

The ANC has a history of cooperation with Russia since the apartheid era. 

President Cyril Ramaphosa has established a committee to investigate the matter, but his office condemned Brigety's swift action. 

Media expert Professor Stanford Mukasa told the media that South Africa's cooperation with Russia during its struggle for independence makes it challenging to separate the two countries.
