The head of the media group in the MDC, Mr Chengetayi Guta, says that as a party, they felt it necessary to visit these prisoners and strengthen them in such a difficult time, which made them ask for permission two months ago.
Mr Guta says that Mr Mwonzora wrote to the Ministry of Justice asking for permission through a document to go and see Mr Sikhala and he got the green light last Friday. He did not want to say what was discussed between the leader of their party and Mr Sikhala.
But the spokesman for the Sikhala family, who is a lawyer, Mr Freddie Masarirevu, says that as far as he knows, Mr Mwonzora has not met Mr Sikhala, saying that Mr Sikhala has said before that he will not meet him.
Mr Masarirevu says that Mr Sikhala has various reasons why he does not want to meet Mr Mwonzora, including fear for his life.
Some political analysts say that Mr Mwonzora is using the suffering of Mr Sikhala and his colleagues in prison to gain political fame, which Mr Guta has denied saying that what he did to Mr Sikhala is something that he can only do for every child of Zimbabwe.
Mr Sikhala and 15 of his colleagues, including the Chitungwiza North representative, Mr Godfrey Sithole, have been in custody for four months accused of inciting violence in Nyatsime following the murder of Ms Moreblessing Ali of the CCC party.
